House Week 9-13 Oct: Cavell (E) Courage
During the week pupils in Cavell House (E) will be thinking about the life of Edith Cavell and fundraising for the Cavell Nurses' Trust.  Edith Cavell (4 December 1865 – 12 October 1915) was a British nurse. She is celebrated for saving the lives of soldiers from both sides without discrimination and for helping some 200 Allied soldiers escape from German-occupied Belgium during the First World War, for which she was arrested. She was accused of treason, found guilty by a court-martial and sentenced to death. Despite international pressure for mercy, she was shot by a German firing squad. Her execution received worldwide condemnation and extensive press coverage. The night before her execution, she said "Patriotism is not enough. I must have no hatred or bitterness towards anyone". These words were later inscribed on a memorial to her near Trafalgar
Square. The Church of England commemorates her in its Calendar of Saints on 12 October. The  Cavell Nurses’ Trust is the charity supporting UK nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants, both working and retired, when they’re suffering a personal or financial crisis often due to illness, disability, domestic abuse.

World Mental Health Day (10 Oct)
The theme for 2023, set by the World Foundation of Mental Health, is ‘Mental health is a universal human right’.  Particularly relevant to recent Y9 Citizenship content.
World Mental Health Day is about raising awareness of mental health and driving positive change for everyone’s mental health. It’s also a chance to talk about mental health, how we need to look after it, and how important it is to get help if you are struggling.

Suffolk & Norfolk Careers and Skills Festival (11 Oct)
We will attend the Careers and Skills Festival.

World Sight Day (12 Oct)
World Sight Day is on Thursday, 12th October 2023, and this year The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness are focusing the world’s attention on the importance of eye care in the workplace. In and outside of the workplace, from tiny laptop screens to the biggest televisions, we spend our days staring at screens. But digital eye strain is becoming an increasingly bigger problem. A break of 20 seconds every 20 minutes can save your eyes and body from unwanted strain and pain.
