10 years ago, Hartismere High School published its first website.

Since then, the website has been redesigned and republished several times.

The first website, published in 1997, was created using Microsoft FrontPage Express 2.0, although some parts were written in raw HTML. It was uploaded to the internet using a 28k modem at a time when few schools were publishing websites. The whole site was only about 500KB in size - and would fit comfortable on a floppy disk. In 1997, only a handful of people would visit the site each week and it cost £200 to register the domain name www.hartismere.co.uk for two years.

In 2007, the school website is built with DotNetNuke - a Microsoft Asp.Net web based application with some slight modifications. This is a "content managed" site with data stored on Microsoft SQL Server . The site is currently about 500MB in size - a thousand times bigger than 10 years ago. Each week approximately 7,000 people from around the world visit the school site. It cost £1.99 to reregister www.hartismere.co.uk for the next two years.
